This baby, baby Jesus was sent by God. His mother’s name was Mary. His Father was God Himself. He came to earth to save us from our sins!

     Think about what the world was like on that silent night, holy night. How amazing it was to hear an angel’s voice. What was it like back there in Bethlehem, hearing the angel say, “Peace on earth, good will toward men”? The shepherds were out in the field watching over their flock by night. Then the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were afraid. But the angels said, “Fear not, for behold I bring you good news of a great joy that shall be for all people. For unto you is born this day a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

“Wonderful Counselor” means Jesus Christ makes life wonderful. The problems we face in life do not need to baffle us; we know that God will reveal His will to us because Christ is our Counselor.  

“Mighty God” takes care of the demands of life that can overwhelm us.

“Everlasting Father” means that because Christ came to Earth to die on the cross, pay for our sins, and rise from the dead, we have an everlasting Father who will be with us forever.

“Prince of Peace” takes care of the disturbances of life. And how we need that peace in these frightening times.

Just like Jesus has changed our lives, as we celebrate Christmas others will see our JOY and want Jesus in their lives too!

When you hang out with a friend or chitchat over the phone, you like to hear positive words, right? Words are amazing. They don’t weigh a thing, yet they have the power to strengthen the soul or crush the heart. That’s why God wants us to weigh what we do and say before we do or say it. He wants us to be especially careful about the way we treat and talk to someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus. When you feel yourself cutting someone down, ask God for the strength to do and say kind things. When that person feels built up, not torn down, he or she just might decide to believe in Jesus. I weigh what I do and say.

Unfortunately, many people think they know the way to heaven and believe there are many ways to get there. As you grow older, you’ll hear more and more about this. But Jesus, came to earth from heaven and really knows the way. He made it super clear that the only way to heaven is through Him. Don’t believe anyone who says something different. Jesus is my complete, one-way street to heaven.

We use soap for cleaning all kinds of things: hands, hair, clothes, dishes. Daily bathing with soap keeps dirt and body oils from clogging the pores of our skin. But remember everybody also needs spiritual cleansing. If we want God to forgive us and clean away our sins, we first have to confess them. That means, sincerely praying a one-sentence prayer: “I was wrong, and I’m sorry.” Then, because God’s Son, Jesus, has already died for our sins, God forgives us. That doesn’t seem like too big of a deal, but you’d be surprised at the number of people who refuse to come clean with God. Don’t be like them. Admit your dirt. Let Jesus’ soap scrub you clean and give you hope.

Have you ever heard the word stifle? It means to choke or murder by strangling. How can we kill God the Holy Spirit? We can’t. But we can choke out the work he wants to do through us. The Holy Spirit is all-powerful, yet he operates in our hearts so gently that he’s like a flickering candle. Because the Spirit of God is holy just like God the Father, He won’t have anything to do with sin. The Holy Spirit never leaves you, but sin can certainly dampen his plans for you. Whenever you sin, admit it to God. Each time he’ll forgive you and ignite his flame within you once again. I handle His candle with care.

Keeping our mouths shut at the right times may sometimes feel like one of the hardest things we need to do. Have you said something lately that made someone feel really bad? If so, ask God to forgive you. Then go to that person, admit that you were wrong and ask for forgiveness. This will take a lot of courage, but you can do it. I’m learning to zip my lips. Help me be like You, filled with mercy, compassion, and unfailing love. Take control Lord and guard my lips!
